Sydney Symphony Orchestra

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is Australia’s premier symphony orchestra, founded in 1932. Based at the iconic Sydney Opera House, it plays a vital role in the country’s cultural landscape, performing over 150 concerts annually and engaging with more than 350,000 audience members. The orchestra presents a diverse repertoire, from classical symphonies and opera collaborations to contemporary commissions and film music.

In 2022, Simone Young became the orchestra’s Chief Conductor, making history as the first woman to hold the role.
